Tesco withdraw planning application!

We are delighted that Tesco have withdrawn their planning application for the huge store on the Mayfield Road site. Tesco have said they will resubmit plans later on this year once they take into account the feedback from residents - so this is not over yet.

We would like to thank everyone who has sent letters, signed petitions, delivered leaflets, or helped in any other way.

As the 5,000 signatures on the petition show the majority of the town's residents oppose a new store on the Mayfield Road site. The willingness of residents to put time and effort into objecting to the plans in such numbers has been directly responsible for Tesco having to withdraw their application.

We wait to see what Tesco will submit later this year . IRATE hopes that it will conclude that building a huge new store on the Mayfield Road site is not what the town wants. Instead we would like to see Tesco improving the existing Springs Lane store.
